Preparing for Your Wedding Day Hair and Makeup

Every detail of your wedding has been meticulously planned, but no detail is more important than you, the bride! All eyes are on you, and you want to make sure that you look and feel your most beautiful on your special day.

Below, we have outlined our tips for preparing for your wedding day hair and makeup so you can not only look and feel your most beautiful but also ensure that the wedding day is stress-free and goes off without a hitch.

Preparing for Your HAIR Services

TIP #1 - Clean & Dry

The common myth is that if your hair is too clean, it is harder to work with. The exact opposite is true. A good stylist will have the necessary products to "dirty" your hair so that it is easy to style and lasts all day. On the other hand, if your hair is too dirty, there is no amount of product that can help. Hair that is too dirty is harder to hold its shape and can look stringy and oily by the night's end. The best way to prepare your hair for your wedding day styling is to wash it the day of or at the very soonest the night before and make sure that you arrive for your hair services with completely dry hair. It is ok to use light styling products that you are familiar with and comfortable with, but if you are in doubt, it is best to err on the side of caution and let your stylist use the appropriate products necessary.

TIP #2 - Hair Extensions

You may have dreams of a long voluminous half-up style or a flowing boho updo, but no matter your dream style, there are times when your hair type and texture are not going to allow your dreams to become a reality. The good news is that there is a way to help guarantee that your hairstyle dreams will come to fruition: hair extensions.

Hair extensions are a great way to add volume and texture to any hairstyle. If you already own a set of clip-in extensions, great! Make sure that you bring them with you. If you do not own a set of extensions and are unsure if you will need them, it is better to be prepared and pick up a set before your wedding day. If you are new to hair extensions, it is important to invest in high-quality human hair. Two of the most reputable online hair extension suppliers are Luxy Hair and Cashmere. If you get a little overwhelmed and need help with your selection, feel free to send us an email, and we'll be happy to help.

Tip #3 - Hair Accessories

The right hair accessory can add the perfect touch to your wedding day style. If you will be doing a trial run before the big day, it is best to have your hair accessory for your trial appointment to see how it will look in your hair. Not having a trial? No worries, our friends at Hair Comes the Bride can help you find the perfect hairpiece with their free Personal Recommendation Service. Preparing for your MAKEUP Services

TIP #1 - Months Before

Great makeup starts with great skin. It is important to begin planning in the months leading up to the big day. At least two-three months before the wedding, look at your current skincare routine to assess what areas of your skin you would like to improve. Better yet, schedule an appointment with a skincare professional in your area to get their personal recommendations, or try Skin Consult's personal concierge membership, where you can receive new products every month to try at home for only $19.

While it is important to get your skin in the best shape possible in the months leading up to the wedding, it is just as important in the weeks leading up to the wedding that you don't vary your skincare routine too drastically. Your skin needs time to adjust to new products, and you never know how your skin is going to react, so make sure any new products or procedures are done no sooner than two months before the big day.

TIP #2 - The Week Before

The week before the wedding is the time to ensure that your skin is looking its best and is well groomed and ready for the perfect wedding day makeup. Brows and lips should be waxed or threaded three to five days before the wedding to ensure that any bumps or redness is cleared up before the wedding day. If any scraggly hairs pop up on the day of the wedding, they can be carefully tweezed to give your stylist a smooth and clean canvas to work on.

If you desire a sunkissed look on your wedding day, it's best to avoid the sun and instead opt for a light spray tan. If you do plan on spray tanning, best not to try it for the first time right before the wedding but instead start at least four weeks before and then apply the final spray no sooner than three days before the wedding day.

TIP #3 - The Day Of

If you have planned ahead and followed our tips, your skin should be in great shape come the wedding day. At this point, the best thing you can do is to get plenty of sleep the night before and drink plenty of water the morning of to ensure that your skin is hydrated. Before your makeup artist arrives, give your face a nice gentle washing and apply a light coat of moisturizer.

If you happen to overindulge the night before and wake up with any puffiness, don't panic. Run a washcloth under cold water and lay it on your face for fifteen minutes. Better yet, prepare ahead and put a wet washcloth in the freezer the night before, just in case. If baggy eyes are the problem, cut-up cucumbers or tea bags aren't a myth. They both contain anti-inflammatory properties that can help with puffiness under your eyes.
